Under Which Flag? Order vs. Terror
This propaganda poster contrasts life under two flags. It claims that under the red-and-white flag (Indonesia) there is “terror and poverty,” while under the Dutch red-white-and-blue there is “order and prosperity.” The illustration shows a volcano erupting with a dragon marked “Japan” emerging from the smoke, while an Indonesian man and woman with a child struggle to fend it off. The poster was issued by the Indies in Need Foundation (Stichting Indië in Nood) in The Hague, promoting pro-Dutch sentiment during the turbulent early years of Indonesian independence.
