Freedom Over Peace
Circulated by a local office of the Indonesian ministry of information, this poster is split into two panels. On the left, two peasants tend a rice field representing the future Indonesia hoped to secure, where people could work their own land safely, free of foreign interference. On the right stand two fighters of the Indonesian army, the laskar (people's militia), and a bomb bursting beside them. The blast evokes the terror of war, yet both are ready to fight regardless. The slogan reads "Kita tjinta damai tetapi lebih tjinta kemerdekaan", meaning, we love peace, but love freedom even more.
