A propaganda poster created by Poesat Tenaga Peloekis Indonesia (P.T.P.I) in 1946, capturing the period of pembangunan (nation-building), features an illustration of a family handing over Japanese-issued currency labeled “Oeang Jepang” in denominations of F.10, totaling five notes. The poster’s text reads, “Sampai tg. 26, tiap djiwa F.50,” which translates to “Until the 26th, F.50 per person,” referencing a national currency exchange effort. This poster is part of a scrapbook titled "We Struggle with Posters (P.T.P.I.)," containing reproductions of P.T.P.I. posters from 1945–1947.

Did you know?

The poster dated 26 October 1946 aligns with the enactment of Law No. 19 of 1946 on the Issuance of the Republic of Indonesia's Currency (Undang-Undang Nomor 19 Tahun 1946). The law stated, "Sebagai dasar penukaran, lima puluh rupiah uang Jepang disamakan dengan satu rupiah Uang Republik Indonesia." This meant that Rp1 = F.50, citizens were required to exchange their Japanese-issued money for the new Indonesian currency. This poster was one of many public tools designed to inform and guide people through this historic transition.
