Djawa Baroe 1st Year Anniversary

The phrase “The responsibility of not thinking about your own good interests but others’” was inscribed on a medal commemorating the 1st anniversary of Djawa Baroe magazine, a title that translates from Japanese as Java New Festival. The medal, designed with eight flower petals, blends visual elements familiar to both Indonesian and Japanese cultures: volcanoes, rice, factories, and the sun. Both nations share deep reverence for volcanoes, Japan’s Mount Fuji, known as the “eternal mountain,” and Indonesia’s many sacred volcanoes are seen as symbols of divinity, spirituality, and fertility. Similarly, rice and rice fields represent prosperity, creation, and blessings in both traditions.
