De Ruyter

The Mariso camp, also known as the "Bamboo camp," situated in South Makassar on Celebes, served as a prisoner of war camp primarily for men, including many from KNIL and Allied forces. Architecturally resembling the actual Kampong Makassar, located roughly 15 kilometers south of Batavia (now Jakarta), this resemblance occasionally led to confusion. An excerpt from the survivors of the ship 'De Ruyter' recounts a humorous exchange between Piet and Janus about a misplaced mechanical pencil during the battle on Bali Street.
