Bamboo Spear Diplomacy

A white dove carrying the Union Jack stands for Great Britain, while a crow represents the Netherlands, a bird linked in Indonesia with bad omens, here hinting that the Dutch would bring terror. The crow scatters pamphlets bearing the Dutch promise made after the Second World War, in Queen Wilhelmina's speech of 7 December 1942, that Indonesia would be allowed to govern itself within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. While, the bamboo spear signals the people's firm rejection of that offer.
