Arms of the VOC and Batavia
This heraldic panel presents the arms of the Dutch East India Company, framed by Neptune and a mermaid, alongside the arms of Batavia, supported by Dutch lions. An inscription records the Dutch conquest of Jacatra, now Jakarta, on 30 May 1619. That same year, Governor-General Jan Pietersz. Coen renamed the city Batavia and established its castle, dockyards, warehouses, and administrative center.
